In January 2013, Joe Ashlar performed a weekly “Piano Hour” Workshop Series for the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park at the Old U.S. Mint, located in the French Quarter of New Orleans.  With the approaching of the SuperBowl and Mardi Gras, the performances were very well attended by visitors from out of town, as well as many regular local music fans.  Joe focused on performing solo piano and Hammond Organ Jazz, while discussing elements of jazz and improvisation in a manner that could be easily learned by those not formally trained in music.  Many of the attendees contributed to the workshop by asking questions that were very thought provoking, interesting, and fun!  Fortunately for those who were not able to attend, The Parks department has made available the video from the performances for you to watch!  Also, in the 2nd and third weeks, Joe is joined by ranger and curator Matt Hampsey on the guitar for some jazz duo improvisation!  Check below for videos of the first two weeks:
